Employers seek college graduates who can understand and evaluate the impact of economic and cultural events. Bentley's global studies major prepares students for careers with a global dimension, including service with federal government agencies, international agencies, trade and professional organizations, the media, and private nonprofit organizations. Global studies is also a suitable major for law school preparation. There are four tracks designed to assist students in choosing the appropriate career path.
CAREER TRACKS
Global Business
Students pursuing this track focus their global studies major electives in areas such as international marketing, management and business law, the economics of multinational corporations, and other courses related to careers in global business. Combined with the business minor, a broad background in global studies and language, this track prepares students to pursue careers in globally-oriented business.
Global Relations
To follow this track, students select the politics minor and then focus their global studies tudies major electives in related areas of history, government, economics, and other disciplines. This track helps students to pursue careers in government and global organizations or to prepare for graduate study in various aspects of international affairs.
Global Communications
The communications challenges faced by businesses and other organizations are increasingly global and multicultural in nature. Students can prepare for careers or further study in this area by selecting the information design and corporate communication minor and then focus their global studies major electives in related areas of English, IDCC, marketing and behavioral sciences.
Global Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
This track is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in the nonprofit sector, in either corporate foundations or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that seek to address topics such as human rights, peace, the environment, development and healthcare challenges at the national and international level. Students prepare for these careers by following the general core curriculum for a major in global studies, including courses for the business minor, by selecting relevant courses in buisness law and the natural and social sciences, and by completing a credit-bearing internship in the nonprofit sector.
Academically qualified global studies students are encouraged to consider applying for the five-year BA/MBA program.
