Programs

The IPM minor (offered for the first time in fall 2008) is designed to provide business majors an edge in their profession by adding valuable skills in tools, methods and technologies that support information and process management in organizations. Business processes and information technology are the key enablers of firms’ performance and their ability to compete in the marketplace. Regardless of a student’s major, they will be called to participate in process and technology assessment, analysis and re-design projects during their professional career. The IPM minor will prepare one to effectively work with information and process management professionals.

Starting fall 2010 * to earn an IPM minor a student must complete three courses from the following list:

  • IPM140  Adding Value with Information and Processes (embedded service learning credit)
  • IPM210  Information Security and Computer Forensics (prereq: IT101)
  • IPM320  Decision Support and Business Intelligence (prereq: CS150 or IPM 140)
  • IPM340  Selected Topics in Information and Process Management (prereq: GB310 or instructor’s permission)
  • IPM402  Seminar in Information and Process Management (prereq: instructor’s permission)
  • IPM450  Enterprise Systems Configuration for Business (prereq: IPM 310 or AC 340)
  • CS299 (or permanent replacement) Web Trends and Technologies (prereq: IT101)

AND choose one course from the following:

  • CS150  Introduction to Data and Information Management (prerequisite: IT101)
  • CS299 (or permanent replacement) Web Trends and Technologies (prereq: IT101)
  • COM210  Effective Speaking
  • COM323  Small Group Communication
  • PS311  Social Psychology
  • SO264  Technology, Society and Work
  • MA225  Probability Models for Business Decision-Making (prereq: GB210)
  • MA252 Mathematical Statistics (prereq: [MA139 or MA141] and GB210)
  • ST242 Applied Business Statistics (prereq: [MA126 or MA139 or MA141] and GB210)

 

*Students who pursued the previous GB core (graduating classes of 2011 and 2012) will continue to follow the original requirementsbelow.

  • CS 150  Introduction to Data and Information Management (prerequisite:  IT101)
  • IPM 310 Business Process and Systems (prerequisites: GB201, GB203)

AND choose two courses from the following list:

  • IPM 210 Information Security and Computer Forensics (prerequisite: IT101)
  • IPM 320 Decision Support and Business Intelligence (prerequisite: CS150)
  • IPM 450 Enterprise Systems Configuration for Business (prerequisite: IPM310)
  • CS 299 Web 2.0: Technology, Strategy, Community

 

Students should meet with the IPM adviser to select the two electives that best meet their career objectives. Students who have earned credit for AC340, or who plan to take AC340 will not be allowed to take IPM310. An AC major who would like to pursue the IPM minor must take the remaining four courses (CS150, IPM210, IPM320, and IPM450).
