The Management Department organizes and coaches students for a number of case analysis competitions. Locally, the B-School Beanpot pits Bentley University against other Boston-area business schools; Bentley won the event in 1998. Nationally, the annual Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) contest draws teams from 25 to 30 U.S. colleges. Bentley has won at least one national trophy in every appearance at the SAM. The Business Plan Competition, also a national event, provides a monetary prize of financial support for the business plan that shows the most promise.
Internships are a great way to get a leg up on the competition. Ninety percent of Bentley students complete at least one internship during their four years, and many land jobs well before graduation as a result of their work. The Management Department offers internships in a wide variety of fields, as well as an honors program comprising seminars, directed studies and internships. The internship program offers opportunities for practical, career-related internships in the fall, spring and summer semesters. The honors program recognizes exceptional management students who will also be nominated for recognition by the U.S. Achievement Academy.
Under the guidance of a faculty member, students conduct in-depth investigation or analysis of a specialized topic. To be eligible, students must have a 3.0 cumulative average or a 3.3 average for the previous two semesters.
Interested students should submit a directed study proposal in writing to the appropriate faculty member. Students may apply directed study course credits only as electives.
