Bentley Team WINS Fourth Annual Travelers Insurance Actuarial Case Competition.
Each year, Travelers Insurance invites selected schoolls to participate in an Annual Actuarial Case Competition. Only schools seen as target recruiting opportunities are invited to participate. The six schools invited this year were: Bentley, Hartford, UConn, WPI , Bryant and Temple. Though Bentley participated each of the four years and our teams have done a great job each time, this year marks the team's first WIN.
Teams were asked to consider how Travelers could account for the presence of innovative auto safety devices in pricing auto policies with the goal of increasing their profit due to these policies. They were given five hours to prepare a solution, a presentation, and are give the opportunity to give the presentation in front of an audience and team of Travelers judges.
Team members were: SophomoresRoss Denkin, Rob Henault and Julia Osborn and Juniors, Laura Muise, Long Nguyen and Sean Pankiewicz. They received a $1500 cash prize and the right to display the winner’s plaque for one year.
The victory would not have been possible without the generous help and advising offered by prior team members Christie Mason and Yulia Podolny, Math Department faculty members Norm Josephy , Sam Woolford and Emmy Roth (faculty advisor for the team).
