The program (B.A. in Spanish Studies with a business minor or Business Studies Major BSM) responds to our students' increasingly impressive competency in Spanish and a strong interest in combining Spanish and business skills, through a unique curriculum that integrates language, culture, history, and contemporary affairs of three principle regions of the Spanish speaking world (i.e. Spain, South America, and the Caribbean) with general business skills that will expand career opportunities for other programs, particularly those in the New England area, that place heavier emphasis on Spanish language and literature.
The B.A. in Spanish Studies follows the traditional requirements for a major in Arts and Sciences at Bentley; that is, students will need to complete the General Education requirements in addition to a business studies minor or the new Business Studies Major.
The Spanish Studies Major consists of 24 credits (8 courses), six of which will reside in the Department of Modern Languages and two electives outside the department. The major is designed for both non-native and native speakers of Spanish through a two-track system, giving opportunities scaled to students' background knowledge and learning potential within a 4-year timeframe. All students, irrespective of their track placement, will also be required to complete an applied learning experience.

This Bentley minor emphasizes personal communication skills and helps students understand basic cultural differences of people from other countries.
Students who choose to minor in modern languages are required to complete a minimum of four courses in one language, meet with a faculty adviser to plan the courses that will constitute the minor, and obtain the faculty adviser’s written approval before taking those courses. Residence for a year, a semester or a summer in a country where the language being studied is spoken, including a family home-stay arrangement, is strongly recommended.
